After collecting all the necessary information, we will discuss with you the likely diagnosis and any testing which is indicated. Please bring in the ingredients of any processed foods you suspect may have caused your reaction as well as any over-the-counter medications you took on the day(s) of your reaction.
Food allergy skin testing will be done for any suspected food allergens. A skin test is when a very small amount of a food allergen is applied to your skin with a small skin prick. It is left there for 15 minutes and then read to determine if it is a positive reaction, the emergence of a wheal and flare reaction.
In the event you cannot be skin tested to the food(s) which are suspected a blood test may be ordered to assess whether you are allergic to a food. You may be asked to keep a food diary in which you record all the food, drinks, and medications you ingest.
